Bonaire, Underwater Archeology, Red Slave, Oranje Pan, Topographic Chart of Bonaire, 1915

In 1915 is published in the Netherlands, the “Topographisch kaart van Bonaire” scaled at 1:150.000. It is a handsome booklet of ten pages very concise and a golden mine of informations. For instance Karpata, Klein Bonaire (West Punt), Kralendijk, the three Salt Pans and Lac Bay were anchorages as well as Boca Slaagbai.

Concerning Lacre Punt, we have been at GlobeDivers, right and wrong so far. Now that we really get the pieces of the puzzle together, we are able to accurately “remap” Red Slave and Bonaire the way it was before.

The fact is there is much more dry land in the South (in 1915) than we believe two months ago and that the beach of Red Slave looked almost like Margate Bay (in 2011). There was also a mooring buoy almost in front of the Orange Obelisk and two piers.

The final result of this work will be released this Summer in our book “The Best Dives of Bonaire”.
